We headed to the 6th annual Reetz/Wynn egg hunt the Thursday afternoon before Easter. We always look forward to this fun event with Mommy's school friends. We had to stop for a photo op. with the bunnies.
Funny story: notice the look on Payton's face below. Before the egg hunt began, I looked over and saw Payton holding a golden egg. Very quietly and abruptly I told her to put it back, that the hunt had not started. I then had a friend overhear the conversation come up to me and tell me that she had already found it, and hidden it in the sand box so that she would know where it was. I think it's hilarious, long story short, she puts back the egg and gets ready for the hunt to begin. The preschool kids are in the front yard and the older in the backyard. I let her pick which one she wanted to go to, knowing good and well she would pick the backyard because of the known golden egg. Sure enough, that's what she chose. As soon as the hunt began, she TOOK off! She tripped on a root and busted it just shy of the egg. I was worried about her, but I also knew good and well that if someone walked right by and got the egg before she did, a meltdown would soon ensue. I ran over to her, encouraged her to get up and keep going. She jumped right up, got the egg, and then started crying about her hard crash. She really did fall hard, but that didn't stop my girl! I think the reason the story is pretty funny to me is because it's not really Payton's personality to be so forceful at something like that, especially around a lot of kids she doesn't know. After some encouragement, she continued to hunt finding a few more eggs that she really wasn't that concerned about. All that mattered was that golden egg. This might just be my favorite picture of Harper to date. Smocked dress, boots, pigtails, and a cupcake. That's Harper.
We then headed home for a fun afternoon of swinging.
