We were VBS pros last week. Monday through Friday we attended AUMC in the mornings. Even though we don't actually go to church there, Payton attends preschool there. I was the crew leader in charge of her rambunctious group of 14 four year olds, the "boar group". If you would have asked me Monday if I would quit if I was able, I probably would have said yes. Just being honest. However, by Friday we were actually staying together in a line, figured out our routine, and weren't experiencing what I felt was complete chaos. The teacher in me just had to keep telling myself it wasn't a structured school day. In the end, I ended up loving hanging out with those sweet four year olds and seeing them learn and grow. Payton had an absolute blast singing, dancing, doing crafts, playing games, etc. She really learned so much and did pretty well paying attention during the lessons. She loved "Kingdom Rock" and learning to stand strong for God. Not an ounce of her shyness showed through when she would sing ad do the motions to the songs, even when our group went to the front to perform. It probably helped that we had been listening to the cd in the car all week. I loved having the opportunity to share this time with Payton as she learned and interacted with her friends (something I rarely get to even see since I never take her to school). Harper was in the "little dear" 2 year old group. She would cry when we dropped her off, but I think came around pretty quickly from what I understand.
Wednesday night started Camp Cornerstone. Wednesday night was family night so we all went and listened to a kid friendly sermon. Afterwards Payton went to play games, Harper went to the nursery, and we listened to a talk. We went back Thursday and Friday night where I was the crew leader again. This time we only had 5 kiddos... A breeze compared to the morning;) it felt much more fast paced, but we had a blast! Payton didn't really know anyone except Ava so she stuck a little closer by me. The sweet ladies took such good care of Harper for us. Saturday was supposed to be family serve day, but I woke up that morning barely able to move. The week had finally caught up with my 30 week pregnant self. Plus I was heading that afternoon to cook for four hours. All in all, we had an excellent week and Payton enjoyed it all... The important part!
Payton got an invitation last week to go back to Waverly's VBS in a few weeks with Babee. She's pretty excited. I guess before the summer is out she will be a pro at this! I can't say how thankful I am to watch her sweet little heart be shaped and molded to honor God and "stand strong."
